ASRC History
- 1943 National Synthetic Rubber Corporation opens in support of U.S. war effort
- 1954 Purchased from the U.S. government; becomes American Synthetic Rubber Corp.
- 1957 Begins production of liquid polymer used in binding rocket fuel
- 1976 NASA selects ASRC as official supplier of liquid polymer
- 1987 Launches first new product in 27 years, a synthetic rubber with three proprietary polymers
- 1990 Implements major environmental projects: emission reduction techniques and self-contained water-treatment facility
- 1992 Adds $25 million power house to co-generate energy for plant use
- 2001 Earns ISO 14001 designation for environmental management; $2.5 million state-of-the-art control room complex opens
- 2003 Installs regenerative thermal oxidizer for emission control
- 2004 Announces new environmental projects to reduce emissions an additional 50%
- 2005 Installs a flare thermal oxidizer and reduces emissions by 90%
- 2006 Becomes first chemical company in Kentucky to be accepted into U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Environmental Performance Track program
- 2006 Named Master Member of KY EXCEL, the environmental leadership program of the Department for Environmental Protection
- 2009 Begins development of the Campground Natural Area, a 75 acre former landfill near the ASRC facility, for use as a wildlife preserve
